| Movie Review: Young @ Heart Alternate Title: Forever Young
Story: I laughed, I cried! No,
seriously, I really did. It has been a long time since I fell for a
film hook, line and oxygen tank. British documentarian Stephen
Walker introduces us to a choral group comprised of 24 members,
all in their 70's and 80's. One delightful member is even in her 90's.
Walker documents the seven weeks of rehearsals leading up to the groups'
next performance tour. This chorus out of Northampton, Massachusetts
has been delighting audiences around the world under the leadership
and good humor of the very patient Bob Climan for the
past 25 years. Please do not think this senior group bores us
with tunes about tip toeing thru the tulips. Their songbook includes
tunes by Sonic Youth, The Ramones, James Brown, Talking Heads and Coldplay
among others. The film is inspiring, engaging, honest, heartfelt
and above all, entertaining. If you are not moved by this film, you
might want to go see a cardiologist real soon to ensure your heart is
not made of stone. You Tube has five videos for you to see of their
performance numbers. here are two. The Ramones' I want to be sedated:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McCpBsH9cOQ and Coldplay's Fix You: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2u6k-99qcCE Acting: It is a documentary so this category does
not apply.
Predilection: I like documentary films.
Critters: Two dogs at a very moving scene filmed
at a performance in a local prison.
Food: Cookies and tea.
Sex Spectrum: Octogenarian sex is not shown, but is
implied.
Soundtrack: Wonderful selection of music. I particularly
enjoyed the music videos.
Theater Audience: The Regal theater at Union Square
was pretty crowded with a wide variety of viewers. This film is going
to be seen in a wider release very soon. Check it out when it comes
to your neighborhood.
Sappy Factor: You would thin it would be sappy, but
it was not.
Drift Factor: I was riveted throughout.
Predictability Level: Sadly, pretty high.
Tissue Usage: I wished I had more than one tissue
with me.
Oscar Worthy: Perhaps.
Big Screen or Rental: Rental would be fine but I
think going to the theater with a group of people would be lots of fun.
Length: 108 minutes.
LOBO HOWLS: 9
