| Movie Review: Psycho Beach Party
Story: This movie spoof was oh so close to being hilarious.
I really wanted it to be 'tears in your eyes' funny....but boy, did
it miss the mark! There were a few chuckles every now and then but it
was embarrassingly summer movie bad. Drag legend Charles Busch's
1987 off Broadway play just did not translate onto the silver screen.
In essence the movie attempted to spoof the Gidget/Annette Funicello/
Frankie Avalon/ Beach movies with some recent slasher films and
it ended up just dull. Too bad, so sad!
Acting: Lauren Ambrose (Chicklet) tried really hard
and was probably the element that got this film a few Lobo Howls. Her
ingenue part on stage in 1987 was originally played by Charles Busch
who now featured himself as a female police detective. Thomas
Gibson (Greg of Darma and) just looked confused
and embarassed.
Pets: Really cried out for some pets...but alas, none.
Visual Art: Some funny art made out of coconuts.
Soundtrack: Upbeat
Theater Audience: A (groaning) blend of drag queens,
seniors and me.
Quirky Meter: 4
Oscar Worthy: LOL!
Length: 95 minutes (too long)
LOBO HOWLS: 3
