| Movie Review: Madagascar Alternate Title: It's a Jungle Out There
Story: This funny computer animated
film finds some of New York City's Central Park Zoo residents are discontented
with their confined and routine lifestyle. They end up in the wild and
wooly jungle of Madagascar where they will have to develop new coping
skills. This Dreamworks production features Alex the
lion, Marty the zebra, Melmen the giraffe, Gloria the hippo and four
penguins who are all way outside of their element when they get themselves
in jams in the wild. It is cute, definitely for kids and should be
on your next airplane flight. Acting: The fine voices include Ben Stiller,
Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinckett Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen,
Cedric the Entertainer and Andy Richter. Predilection: I have been a volunteer at the Central
Park Zoo for the past fifteen years and could not help but see this
film. I particularly enjoyed the first part of the film that takes place
in NYC. Critters: Everywhere
Food: Everyone could be someone else's dinner.
Soundtrack: Funny
Theater Audience: It is always great to see a film
like this when there are kids in the theater.
Drift Factor: I started to drift during the last third
of the film.
Predictability Level: I didn't care which way it
ended.
Oscar Worthy: No
Soap Box: My other option for alternate title was
'Born to Be Wild' but the truth is that the wild is diminishing and
habitats are shrinking at an alarming rate. Most animals in zoos have
been born in other zoos or aquariums and are the ambassadors of their
usually dwindling species left in the wild.
Nit Picking: Animated animals have no nits. Big Screen or Rental: Rental would be fine.
Length: Under two hours.
LOBO HOWLS: 5
