| Movie Review: Hustle & Flow Alternate Title: Heart & Soul
Story: It's difficult to like
a pimp and small time drug dealer, yet this very entertaining film by
writer and director Craig Brewer does just that. Small time loser, D-Jay, has dreams. He coulda
been a contender in the hip hop field but things did not go his way.
Cut to his meeting an old HS friend who helps him find his groove and
thinks that he might just make all of his dreams come true. This film
could have gone south in so many directions but kudos to director Brewer
who never allowed it to sink into the very predictable. It's a little bit of Memphis style "The
Commitments" meets "8 Mile." This film is an homage to
dreams and long shots. Give it a chance and you will surely smile. Acting: A great cast led by the terrific Terrance
Dashon Howard (Crash) with a superb ensemble including
the fabulous Taraji P. Hensen as Shug, Taryn
Manning, Anthony Anderson, Paula Jai Parker, Elise Neal, and Ludacris.
